Just released today is the latest vinyl from kidrobot x Major Lazer. An 8 inch masterpiece based on the KR bot figure with a beautifully detailed lazer gun arm prosthetic.
If you aren't familiar, Major Lazer is a collaborative project of the DJ/producers Diplo and Switch, Major Lazer debuted with the album Guns Don't Kill People... Lazers Do in 2009, followed by Lazers Never Die in 2010.
The music itself is a dope dance hall vibe seemingly made for people who appreciate a big bowl of weed.
There's a great quote on Pitchfork.com that I wanted to mention. Zach Kelly of Pitchfork says "it's a shame to think about how many Fourth of July barbecues could've benefitted from this batch of originals and reinterpretations from the duo's hybridized dancehall debut, Guns Don't Kill People-- Lazers Do."
It honestly is a sick beat and I encourage you to give both albums a try.
If you happen to be in this great city of Toronto on the 28th be sure to check em out at the Sound Academy. You can pick up tickets on their website at http://majorlazer.tumblr.com.
Here's a video I copped from Youtube. Listen.
